Fund established to award a junior or senior History student, preferably with an emphasis in the study of California and/ or the western United States. First preference is to a Native American student who has graduated from either a Humboldt County charter or high school, but is not limited to students who meet those preferences. Fund established to provide two awards to Fisheries Biology graduate students--one via the Joseph Bania Award and the other via the Barbara Bania Award—who engage in research studies of field-based understandings of the links between freshwater and anadromous fishes and the habitats upon which they depend. Preferred research topics include, but are not limited to, research on impacts brought about by watershed degradation, exotic species, introductions, and pollution. Further preference is given to students working on projects in Norther California and those projects focused upon steelhead, salmon, trout, shad and striped bass.
