Established by the The Oliner Family to continue Pearl and Sam Oliner’s commitment to seek out ways to enhance altruism and prosocial behavior in society. At least $500 per distribution year will be used to hire a student assistant to support the work of the Altruistic Behavior Institute at Cal Poly Humboldt. The remainder shall be used to support annual Altruistic Behavior Institute projects, including public dialogues on altruism in relation to different disciplines, cultures, world views, knowledges, and vocations. If the Altruistic Behavior Institute should be dissolved, the endowment’s purpose can be enacted through support of the Humboldt Journal of Social Relations (HJSR) housed in the Department of Sociology at Cal Poly Humboldt. Through faculty mentorship, HJSR provides graduate and advanced undergraduate students (primarily in the Department of Sociology) an opportunity and experience to produce a peer reviewed online journal.
