Fund established to provide a scholarship that benefits Sociology students with an interest in, and commitment to, helping those with disabilities. College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences (CAHSS)

The Ketly Shakira Sylla Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Cal Poly Humboldt student Ketly Shakira Sylla. Ketly, who was a senior pursuing her degree in Sociology, passed on Sept. 20, 2019, at the age of 22. She was an Educational Opportunity Program student and worked with the African American Center for Academic Excellence, the Indian Tribal & Educational Personnel Program, and the Student Disability Resource Center. She was an involved student leader on campus and in the community.

"Ketly is also known to many as Kel. My daughter was so special to so many people, she was more than a daughter but my best friend. We shared her special desire to help anyone, especially those with a disability. She liked to sing, dance and just have fun. Words can’t explain how much I love her. For anyone who has come in contact with her, witnessed her smile, laugh, and kindness." - Kenya Oliver, Kel's Mother
