We all get caught up with our lives and forget what helped us get to where we are today. Happiness is not found in the final destination, but in the journey. And looking back at the coaches we all had, the workouts, the races, the teammates of our journey made us all better.

The Jim and JoAnn Hunt Scholarship Endowment is named in honor of the Hall of Fame coach and his dedicated wife. Coach Hunt brought Humboldt State University Track & Field and Cross Country to National prominence. Coach James D. Hunt guided the program from 1967-1993 a program that gave rise to numerous NCAA Champions in the College, D-I, D-II, and D-III divisions. His Cross Country teams were always contenders on the national level and in 1980 they won the National Championships. He coached not just steeplechasers and distance runners to All-America status but also hurdlers and field athletes, including an amazing 56 All-Americans, an Olympian and Pan Am games athletes. He guided female athletes long before Title IX. Coach Hunt was named to the US Coaches Hall Of Fame in 2013. His wife JoAnn, never complaining, was a team psychologist, cook, typist and mom.

This endowment was established to help future deserving men’s and women’s Cross Country and Track and Field athletes continue to be a part of Humboldt State history. By donating to the fund you are not only honoring Hunt's coaching legacy, but helping future athletes add their story to the Humboldt State tradition. Please support with your donation.
