Jack McGurk '66
Vice Chair

Jack is a 1966 Cal Poly Humboldt alumnus with a degree in Biology. He is the president of Systems Improvement Initiators, Inc. (Si3) a consulting firm that assists companies, hospitals, and health care facilities to improve operations and implement cost-effective environmental improvements. He is a member of IEHA and engages in consulting and training with the association. Jack retired in August 2004 from the California Department of Health Services where he served as chief of the Environmental Managemnt Branch and oversaw eight environmental health programs, including medical waste management. He holds a MPA, Administration of Public Programs from CSU Hayward.

Jack played a key role in developing the legislation that became the California Medical Waste Management Act. His innovative medical waste pollution reduction/prevention program was honored with the 2002, 2003 and 2004 Champion for Change Award from Hospitals for a Healthy Environment. He was also awarded the Region IX of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's 2004 Environmental Award for outstanding achievement for leading those efforts.
